We encourage everyone to join us for our monthly day of prayer and fasting. We come together at 6:30 pm to pray at church and then break our fast.
Fast in whatever way you your able. It may be a fast from all food, from meat, caffeine, or technology. The goal is to take our eyes off the physical and onto the eternal. Our bodies and everything we consume will pass away but God will stand forever.
We fast for God alone. Not to impress ourselves, our friends and family, or our church. In Matthew 6, after Jesus instructed us on the Lord’s Prayer and right before he spoke to us about laying up treasures in heaven he said:
16 “And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
We pray and fast that God would be preparing a new pastor for our church. That recognizing and appointing him would be divinely led, as it was for the church at Antioch. 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off. (Acts 13:2-3)
